Outreach 24 -25
Lego Drive’s are not a uniquely new idea, however, Lego Drive’s do encapsulate the core values of the Albany Academy Robotics Team. We hope this initiative will help bring stem activities into households who don’t have access to these opportunities. The Lego Drive consists of the community at The Academies donating any old legos or unused legos for redistribution at the Boys and Girls Club.
Lego Drive
Every year, Botman hosts a table at our school’s annual track or treat, held on Halloween. Track or Treat is for our lower schoolers, who walk around the track in their costumes, collecting candy from tables hosted by upper school clubs. We bring Spike Kits and a Lego robot, that they can drive, to get kids interested and excited about the FLL team.

Mentoring FLl
Some of our newer team members that came directly from FLL go to mentor the current FLL team at our school twice a week. While there, our mentors help the team with learning how to code their robot, using pseudocode to code their robot, making attachments for their robot, building a robot, creating and coming up with an innovation project, and creating presentations.
Every year our school hosts a club fair for students to sign up for various types of clubs. The point of the club fair is to inform students what clubs our school offers, and what it would look like if you were in the club. Even though robotics is a community commitment at our school, we still had a table at the club fair because we wanted to show the whole student body about robotics and FIRST

Lower school Robotics night
This year, Botman is taking on an exciting new initiative to spread enthusiasm for FTC in our community. We are creating a robotics night for our lower school students, grades 1-4, happening in January. We will assign the students groups, and the groups will rotate between three tables, each with a special activity and lesson. We hope that this will spark an interest in the kids for robotics, leading them to join Botman in the future years.
open house
Each year, our robotics team takes an active role in our school’s Open House Night, using this event as a key opportunity to introduce students and families to the world of FIRST Robotics and spark interest in STEM. We host a table to discuss what it’s like being on a robotics team and answer any questions interested students may have.
